ELYAS KHAN and The Hungry Ghost News...

The inimitable Mat Clark of Three Black Eyes (London) made this poster using some of the lyrics from demos and rough pieces of songs that will appear on the album... currently being worked on in between show dates, on subway cars, in taxis, and anywhere that a mic can be plugged in!

LOOK OUT for very limited CDRoms (think of mixed hardcore show tapes
back in "the day") which Elyas will have on hand at his November shows... you'll recognize them because they'll be wrapped in this poster!

Three Black Eyes current recording project invites Elyas as a guest vocalist (SORRY we can't leak their material - even though the temptation to include it on the demos CDRoms was almost overwhelming!). Three Black Eyes will come across the channel in Dec 2008 and will play a show in Paris, and will be joined by their main vocalist Chad Parks (NYC) : www.myspace.com/chadparks
Elyas will be making a guest appearance in this show... Not to be missed!

Elyas on Radio France International!

It's been another exciting week for Nervous Cabaret!

Last weekend marked the first show ever in New Jersey -- at the incredible Asbury Lanes (we're definitely doing this again!)... watch soon to watch live broadcast (on re-broadcast from JamNow.com)!

The Knitting Factory show was FANTASTIC... you can check out photos on Flicker courtesy of Nicola Nonesuch!

and... a great interview aired on Radio France on Feb 7th. Laurence Aloir interviewed Elyas at the RFI studios, where they discuss who he'd like to be buried next to, musical influences, and played tunes from Drop Drop. The translator was Naive's own and beloved Maya (who is as gorgeous as her voice!). Listen Here: ELYAS ON RFI

A GLIMPSE OF THINGS TO COME.

Man, so excited to see what Lucas Racasse comes up with again. He directed our last video for "Passion Plumbers" after a long night of drinking and merry making with yours truly. The results were transporting, literally. We were in Brussels, Paris and NYC all in one tight four minute bundle.
This time for the new "SLEEPWALKERS" video Lucas got to hit the road with us for four days and shoot the band in Liege Belgium and Vendome France (where incidentally we shared the stage with Deerhoof one of our all time favorite bands...that was cool!).
After the tour Fred and I ventured back to Brussels to complete the green screen shoot.
We improved take after take from all angles with both still shots and full video.
great work if you can get it !
Here is just one small glimpse of said green screen take.
Finished video coming soon.
Enjoy.

The Roots, Mike Watt & The Book of Knots!

Yes folks… it’s been a pretty great week!

Elyas was shipped off to San Francisco to record vocals on the next Tiny Telephone Studios! For those of you listening to the PodCast of his Watt from Pedro Show… yes that was Elyas singing in the background!

Elyas had a great time hanging out with old friend Steve Raspa, who gave him a full city tour, complete with a tour of the Burning Man HQ. Big thanks go out to Matthias Bossi, Carla Kihlstedt, Tony Maimone, and Joel Hamilton for all their hospitality and for putting together such a wonderful project!

If that wasn’t cool enough, we got a call from another friend saying to click over to OkayPlayer because The Roots had given Pere LeChaise a big thumbs up.El Keter (one of the sites main contributors) wrote the January 22, 2008 entry:

BASS: HOW LOW CAN YOU GO? And yes indeedy, he does say some great things about Nervous Cabaret…

European Tour Dates are being announced for February/March… keep your eyes of the website or myspace/nervouscabaret

Elyas will be writing all about his week in San Francisco - so keep your eyes on the blog!

Hope to see you ALL out at the shows!

All Love, Melissa

KiD [SiC] is perfectly composed!

The next fantastic news to come rolling along in the past week is that KiD [SiC] (Elyas Khan) has been selected by the MacDowell Colony as a composer in residence. The decision was based on the score which Elyas wrote for Charcoal Boy. The score was performed live by Nervous Cabaret last summer during it's development as part of St Ann's Warehouse Puppet Lab.

The MacDowell Colony was awarded the National Medal of Arts for "nurturing and inspiring many of this century's finest artists." With great reverence for that legacy KiD [SiC], along with Charcoal Boy creators and puppeteers Sarah Provost and Eric Novak, will join ranks of the long list of artists who have been awarded residency, including such venerables as Spalding Gray and Leonard Bernstein.
